Frequently asked questions

Everything you need to know about Crane — privacy, pricing, features, and system requirements.

Is there a free trial?

Yes. Every feature is unlocked for 7 days — AI posture detection, breathing exercises, all ergonomic profiles, dark mode, and 21 languages, with no restrictions. After 7 days, a one-time $54.99 purchase (not a subscription) keeps Crane working permanently.

Does Crane record my webcam?

No. Webcam frames are processed in memory by TensorFlow.js and immediately discarded. Nothing is stored, transmitted, or recorded. There is no cloud backend, no server, and no mechanism to send data anywhere. This is an architectural decision, not a policy promise.

Does Crane need internet?

No. Crane works 100% offline. The AI model runs locally on your CPU using TensorFlow.js. No network calls are made after installation. You can disconnect from the internet entirely and Crane will function identically.

What webcam do I need?

Any USB or built-in webcam works. Crane does not require a high-resolution camera or any special hardware. The MoveNet pose estimation model is designed to work with standard webcam quality.

Does Crane slow down my computer?

Crane uses approximately 2-5% CPU during active posture detection. The MoveNet model runs efficiently on any modern processor — no GPU is required. You will not notice any impact on your day-to-day work, even while coding, browsing, or running other applications.

Which posture problems does Crane detect?

Crane detects three common desk-related posture issues: forward head posture (head drifting ahead of shoulders), slouching (head dropping relative to shoulders), and excessive forward lean (torso tilting toward the screen). These cover the vast majority of posture problems caused by prolonged desk work.

What are ergonomic profiles?

Ergonomic profiles are pre-built work-rest cycles based on peer-reviewed research in occupational health. Each profile defines a repeating sequence of activities — sit, stand, walk, exercise, stretch — at intervals optimized for a specific work style. For example, the Deep Focus profile uses 60-minute seated blocks followed by a 30-minute recovery sequence of standing, walking, stretching, and exercise, designed for developers and knowledge workers.

Can I use Crane without the webcam?

Yes. You can use Crane purely as an ergonomic cycle timer without enabling posture detection. The timer will guide you through activity transitions (sit, stand, walk, etc.) based on your selected profile, without using the webcam at all.

What happens after the 7-day trial?

Every feature is unlocked during your 7-day trial — AI posture detection, breathing exercises, all ergonomic profiles, preset activities, sensitivity controls, overlay customization, custom activities, dark mode, and 21 languages. After 7 days, Crane locks until you purchase.

Is Crane a subscription?

No. Crane is a one-time purchase of $54.99 after your trial ends. There are no recurring charges, no monthly fees, and no annual renewals. You pay once and keep Crane working forever.

What languages does Crane support?

Crane supports 21 languages: English, Spanish, French (France & Canada), German, Italian, Portuguese, Dutch, Polish, Turkish, Russian, Swedish, Danish, Norwegian (Bokmål & Nynorsk), Finnish, Japanese, Korean, Thai, and Chinese (Simplified and Traditional). The entire interface — menus, notifications, profiles, and onboarding — is translated.

Where can I get help?
