The 90-minute cycle length is grounded in Anders Ericsson's landmark 1993 research on expert performers. Studying violinists at the Berlin Academy of Music, Ericsson found that elite performers naturally organized their practice into sessions of approximately 90 minutes, rarely exceeding this duration before taking a substantial break. This pattern aligned with the basic rest-activity cycle (BRAC), a 90-minute ultradian rhythm that governs fluctuations in alertness, cognitive performance, and physiological arousal throughout the day.

The 60-minute sitting block within Deep Focus provides the longest unbroken focus period of any Crane profile. The 8-minute standing phase immediately following the sitting block provides the initial postural reset. After 60 minutes of sitting, the trunk extensors and lumbar multifidus are significantly fatigued. Eight minutes of standing allows these muscles to re-engage and begins reversing the spinal flexion that accumulated during the sitting phase.

Walking follows standing for 8 minutes, directly matching the duration shown by Restaino (2015) to restore vascular function after prolonged sitting.
